This is the third installment of the Libertarian Manifesto of Collin County Libertarian Party member Albert Meyer. Albert has been kind enough to share this with us. We hope you find it useful.
More than 5 million people in the US are denied the right to vote because of a criminal record. Approximately 3 million of these are African Americans and Hispanics, although they only make up approximately 13% and 15%, respectively, of the US population. However, consider that committing a crime cannot constitutionally disqualify someone from serving in Congress. I believe once you have served your time and paid your debt to society your constitutional rights need to be restored, which include your right to vote. Some would argue that this could benefit the Democratic Party. That makes no difference, because the Libertarian Party does not choose between political expedient options.
