This is post is not intended to be an exhaustive list, but rather a brief outline for possible candidates about the minimum requirements in order to run for a local or state office with the Libertarian Party. This post does not cover federal offices including US Congress and US Senate.
First Thing
You must be resident of the state of Texas and have reached the minimum requirements for the office you are seeking. It would be helpful, but not required to fill out the LPTexas’ candidate application.
Next
Assuming you meet the requirements, you must then complete the Application for Nomination form (AW2-8), have it notarized and submit it to the either the LP county chair for a county or district office or the LP state chair for a statewide before 5pm on Monday, December 11, 2017.
One More Thing
Once you file, you must then file the form to appoint a Treasurer for your campaign with the Texas Ethic Commission, even if you do not intend to spend or raise money. You can be your own treasurer. That is it, you are now a candidate. Please note this does NOT mean you are the nominee but rather that you are eligible for nomination at the appropriate convention in the spring. If you are interested in running as a Libertarian, please email us and plan to be at our monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 6, at 6:30pm at 5th Street Pizza in Allen.
